Arrow Energy has denied speculations that it was backing away from its $20 billion-plus liquefied natural gas export project after it decided to relinquish some coal seam gas permits in south-east Queensland. Parts of licences in the Clarence Moreton Basin were returned to the government, including the Scenic Rim area in Brisbane, which had been subject of intense protests. The decision to relinquish was "part of a routine process we conduct regularly" said a spokesman for the Shell-PetroChina joint venture. Doubts have surrounded Arrow's commitment to its LNG project in Queensland amid speculation about rising costs, difficulties with environmental approvals and shortages of CSG supplies for some of the existing three LNG ventures in Gladstone.
