Seismic reflectors occur when you basically have a change in density of the rock. Formation tops and zones within a formation usually involve a change in lithology. In the case of the Upper to Lower Angwa you go from interbedded/intercalated sands and shales to a section dominated by thicker massive sands. The Lower Angwa seismic reflector marked in purple on the schematic marks this change in lithology.
