I wonder if the "other potential buyer" for Morilla now involved in the discussions was the second reported bidder that the Mali Gov favoured previously but was passed over by our management in favour of the mining contractor....Hard to know why one was favoured over another given the value to us is nominal anyway. Possibly all to do with us contributing to an environmental bond before we depart.
Tailings in the mine put there by the previous owner has been the topic of discussion from Gov side....I wonder if the extent of them was under reported to FFX when we bought it. Seems like the extent of it was a surprise to our management team when they dewatered (despite them doing some kind of study into it during due diligence from memory)...though I don't know why the Government would be bringing it up..Did the fool Cowden get taken for a right merry ride by Barrick who skipped out having to pay for the mine decommissioning & enviro repair? Looks like it.
Feels like we are being fitted up to get stung for the enviro bond on top of the $200 mill to the refurb and general community - only to lose it all.
Highlighting that they are separate from LLL is sensible, and possibly wasn't well understood by some in the interim military government, and definitely not by the local populace or media.
I wonder if the "other potential buyer" for Morilla now involved...
