It's great that GNC has been able to diversify its export nation destinations.
On Monday 23 August 2021 at 0721 hours, MV 'Bunan Brave' departed Geelong's grain loading wharf with thousands of tonnes for the port of Manzanillo in Mexico. I had to look up where that was. GNC had highlighted a few months ago that Mexico had become a prominent destination for wheat. IIRC, it was not five years ago.
MV 'Navi Star' is now travelling at seven knots towards the berth that 'Bunan Brave' departed from. Far better 'occupancy rate' than forlorn QAN planes sitting unused throughout Australia and west coast USA. That's why I don't "invest" in woke (or any) airlines.
Pleasing to see the GNC port facilities at Carrington (Newcastle NSW), Port Kembla NSW and Portland (Vic) also busy with bulk ships fully booked.. The last two had not handled much (or any in PK's case) grain in most of 2020 and all of 2019 plus perhaps further back. Bear in mind that GNC must have an exportable surplus to use the ports as first priority is to meet domestic millers' needs.
The Maroona (near Ararat) - Hamilton - Portland (Vic) rail line, little used during much of 2020, has seen many grain hopper trains that originate at GNC facilities such as Marmalake (Murtoa, with its famous 'Stick Shed') and Warracknabeal.
