    While most grain GNC exports is in bulk, it also handles containerised grains. As I understand it, some of this can be packing for third parties from which GNC takes a nice little cut.

    Worldwide, container shipping lines are complaining of delays at ports, with some examples being Germany's Hamburg, Sydney's Port Botany and sometimes Melbourne, plus Tauranga in NZ, the latter's busiest port.

    This is an example of extra costs hitting some exporters, in this case initiated by France's CMA-CGM line that since 1998 has owned the former Federal Government corporation Australian National Line:

    ANL continues to operate within the challenges posed by operational constraints and restrictions and while ANL strives to provide the best possible service to their esteemed customers, it has become necessary to implement a rate restorative program effective from 1st October 2021.


    From 1st October 2021 all export shipments with origin in Australia & New Zealand transhipped via Port Kelang, Singapore & Colombo to ports and points in Middle Eastern Gulf & Red Sea will levy an increase of US$1,800/TEU for Dry Containers & Reefer Containers in the base ocean freight**


    This increase will apply in full on top of existing ongoing market rates and will be subject to accessorial surcharges applicable at the time of shipment.
