Stotes , those definitions must have been created by people who neither understand gambling or investing .
Chances are their remuneration comes in the form of a wage and defined benefit pension from the Govt or similar .
In anticipation of having to defend my speculative investing style against the ignorants claims of "gambling" , I came up with my own distinctions :-
- Gambling : a zero sum game where money is transferred between parties .
- Investing : a situation capable of increasing aggregate real wealth and by which all parties may come out ahead (all investors , workers , customers , society) .
The masses call "real estate" investing but unless you are increasing the stock or quality of housing available to society , then real wealth does not go up .
Investment banks are supposed to get their money from fees and commissions on services .
I get very annoyed when casino operations which get most of their money from trading on their own account being incorrectly termed "investment banks" .
