Gemfields took less than about a fifth the number of carats to their first auction. The problem was MUS did not have the number of good quality carats they needed to hold an auction. Of course mixing up the few they had in mixed lolly bags didn't help.
It took Gemfields three years and US$30 million to get to their first auction. We really should not have expected anything less given Gemfields are experts while MUS are novices. This does not mean that MUS won't succeed, just that we should expect it to be a long and hard grind.
