    Yes, production of steel, not mining of ore.
    The Glenbrook Steel Mill in New Zealand (owned by BlueScope? these days but has had multiple changes of ownership over the years) was established in the 1970's (I think) using electric arc furnaces to create steel from iron sand. NZ produces 80+% of its electricity from renewables and at the time the plant was constructed that may have been even higher.
