do you have one of those nice charts showing the historical pe and or ev/ebit ratios for gud?
Looks like it it might have briefly touched a pe lower than current levels in 2015 and 16 but would be interesting to see the variability and average of its readily available and quick for you.

Requested information, containing P/E and EV/EBIT figures (on 12-month prospective basis) follows in charts below.

A few comments on the source data:

I maintain a financial model of GUD that goes back only as far as 2010.
So I have been able to derive the EV/EBIT figures between 2010 and today, but no earlier.

For the P/E data I gone back further in time to 2002, using published EPS figures prior to 2010.

The prospective 2020 figures are derived from my modelling which, essentially, makes no provision and organic growth, nor for any acquisitions:






Finally, I'm not sure how meaningful this information is, especially the further back in time one looks, because of the quite significant changes in just the past three years (Watson and Brown acquired, Sunbeam, Lockfocus and Oates sold) in the businesses that make up GUD.

So I think there's a risk of comparing apples with oranges when you look at GUD's EV/EBIT multiple anywhere earlier than, about 2015, in my view.

Instead, what I think is a more sensible approach is to start from first principles, by asking oneself, "A company with GUD's business model, operating margins, degree of capital intensity, ROE, competitive positioning, brand resonance, management - along with all the threats, challenges and opportunities... what sort of multiple would I pay for such a business if there was no precedent on which to draw?
