Pretty sure Philpot bought a small package of shares a few years ago - according to the share register. So my bet is - he either thinks he can add value and help turn the company around - or he thinks his name on the board will help get the share price up.

PS: I'd debate your sentiment about construction being slow to adopt tech. Safety Culture which operates in construction safety and compliance tech was founded in the same year as Plantminer/Felix (with less capital investment). It reached a $1b valuation a year or so ago in its latest cap raise. Other companies like iseekplant (Macquarie , SGH invested) Plant Assessor, Assignar, all hitting better runs on lower budgets.
