I suspect you are absolutely right. The relative illiquidity and high volatility of this stock coupled with the reliability and expectations of good consistent results leaves it wide open for astute smart traders to make some fast money. My past short term trades have played out by waiting for the price to settle after the traders have belted it down after the announcements. Those actions have been pretty reliable over the last few years - more so once the stock became more noticeable. I do not reduce or trade my core holding which is based on the fundamentals and sits within my super fund. While the ATH prices do make me giddy I have to admit that selling into them is very satisfying. None of these shenanigans should discourage investors from getting into this stock when the price is right because IMO the fundamentals will not let you down. The future definitely holds tailwinds for DDR and Dicker knows how to use them and where to find them - check his history.
