salt by itself is a low density readily absorbable substance. the higher the accumulation though – the more dense the saturated fluid, the less accurate sub surface imaging is as the imaging rays – whether it be 2D and or 3D, are refracted unevenly which in turn distorts the intersecting pulse that produces the image. the higher the accumulation the more likely that any reservoir analysis will have to rely on computational modeling. where possible this is based on the finding of other well within close proximity. i interpreted comments as one of the reasons they were taking water sample both at the well bore, displaced water level and pit to help determine the level of refraction and distortion.
