Geodynamics Habanero 3 now under control
    Posted: 22 May 2009

Geodynamics, Australia's most advanced specialist in hot fractured rock geothermal energy, reported a well incident at its drilling site in remote South Australia had been brought under control.

Crews have been working to stem the flow of water and steam from the Habanero 3 well since the incident occurred on April 24, 2009.

Geodynamics Managing Director Gerry Grove-White said efforts to control the well with weighted mud were successful.

Mr Grove-White said the well has been secured with two cement plugs in the well bore.

"An investigation into the causes of the incident and future implications for Habanero 3 is in progress," Grove-White said.

"A program of work has been developed to carry out the investigation and will require the removal of the well head and damaged sections of the well casing for metallurgical and structural integrity analyses.

"The investigation will take at least six weeks. Pending the outcomes of the investigation, drilling activities are in abeyance."

Mr Grove-White said Geodynamics wishes to thank both joint venture partner Origin Energy and Santos for the help and support that each party provided during the well control incident.

"The company will continue to provide updates to the market as material circumstances change," he said.

Geodynamics has temporarily suspended the commissioning program of a 1MW pilot plant which was to provide power to outback Innamincka pending the investigation into the well incident.
