That westbound train to which I referred only had steel products as loading, so its destination was Port Augusta not Perth.
However an intermodal operated by Pacific National commenced today at Spencer Junction (Port Augusta, South Australia), departing at about 1230 ASDT (1300 AEDT: lunch break time) and has almost reached Tarcoola, SA as at 1915 AEDT (1845 SA time). There are a couple of freights crossing the Nullarbor in the eastbound direction to get rail wagons and containers back to Adelaide, Melbourne, Parkes or Sydney.
As is normal practice when rail lines are repaired following severe damage, there are speed restrictions between Port Augusta and Tarcoola in many sections of track, so it's slowing trains down, but all being well this first one should reach Perth late morning on Wednesday 16 February.
There''' hopefully be a lot more trains over coming days so within a couple of weeks, provided BGA is manufacturing ordered products, WOW/MTS' IGAs/COL and so on ought have more BGA items available for shoppers.
Stocking remoter WA supermarkets and other wholesalers and smaller retailers away from Perth will take longer as once freight reaches Perth, it must go by road to the northwest.
