As it needs to so that BGA can have its shelf positions in WOW, COL, MTS' IGAs and other food retailers (plus distributors) restocked as quickly as possible in Western Australia, rail traffic across the Nullarbor is going gangbusters given the line has been reopened since Tuesday 14 February following a three week flooding-related cessation.
As at 0830 AEDT on Saturday 19 February, there were four PN Melbourne to Perth and one Sydney to Perth PN trains on this long stretch of railway between Port Augusta, SA and Kalgoorlie, WA.
Another one from Sydney was almost at Port Augusta, with a further PN train from Melbourne not far behind.
Yet another intermodal from Melbourne was approaching Adelaide, while much further to the northeast, a Sydney to Perth train was near Parkes, probably with some shunting to undertake as that's where some Perth-bound containers are loaded.
These trains all have chilled and frozen products in multiple rail wagons, so some will contain BGA's much loved yoghurt and cheese.
In a 24 hour period I looked at to 0650 AEDT this morning, an amazing 389 westbound rail wagons were in the consist of trains passing through Gheringhap, with the vast majority to end up in Perth freight yards.
