No, I don't know the facts other than what Bruce shares or states.

Why is it appropriate for Bruce to make a statement about his "understanding" and then not follow it up when his understanding doesn't eventuate?

Did he misunderstand? If so, tell us. Clarifying with shareholders that there was a misunderstanding is his job as the MD.
If he understood but now the situation had changed, leading to a new understanding, then he should also tell us. Why shouldn't he if it was appropriate the first time he shared his "understanding"?
