I should clarify that the Campbelltown to Moss Vale section of the Sydney - Melbourne line, while open, only seems to be hosting passenger trains. This may be due to bridges or other structures needing to checked for heavier (freight) trains or some other infrastructure-related issue. I am informed it "should" be open to everything within three days.
One Perth to Sydney intermodal train is taking the scenic route from Parkes NSW and is currently near Narromine, then will travel through Dubbo, Werris Creek, Muswellbrook, Singleton (where the New England Highway was flooded as of last night, with trucks and motorists taking different detours), Maitland, Broadmeadow and Gosford down to Sydney. This route is a lot slower but at least freight gets there quicker than on weeks-late and only occasional container ships, while road transport across the continent is up to three times more expensive than rail.
