How can a company just shut down like this?

"We got some bad press, so we've decided to just shut the entire business down and sack everyone... thanks everyone!"

Like taking your bat and ball and going home. Thank God I never put any money in, I've never seen a business fold as quickly as this one based on absolutely nothing but hurt feelings.
