I recall the banks regularly having issues with not only their merchant terminals, but also online banking etc.
So I dunno if anyone views them as very reliable.
That said, the extent of this TYR screw-up is quite unprecedented, and the banks' issues are generally isolated or relates to network / connectivity issues.
