This is another reminder to me why I love buying businesses that are being sold to the public by governments (as opposed to those being sold by private equity).
I think people - influenced largely by the innate short-term thinking of the financial media and the strockbroking profession - under-estimate just how valuable these monopoly assets are. Not just that, but also for how long, Following transfer of state ownership to private ownership, is shareholder value able to be generated from ongoing business improvements and efficiency drives.
Having listened to the webcast presentation the thing that pleased me most was the frequent reference to driving Free Cash Flow (I lost count of how many times it was mentioned as a focal point of management).
