I don’t think you’ll see it in a full supermarket type setup (the shelves)…….it’s more suited to the micro market/convenience type setup and that’s how they market it.
For larger supermarket type stores Fasttrack is there tech solution. It’s point of sale identification software similar to a self serve checkout however it identifies the product rather than having to scan it or look it up like you currently do with produce.
From memory there was a little bit of development with a shopping cart that identified products as they were put in cart and then you were billed on the way out….haven’t heard much on this front for a little while though. This would also suit the larger store setup.
The key with the SBW tech is the low data requirements and low setup cost. Accuracy is reportedly better than camera systems used by competitors and a fifth of the price to setup. Yep there are -length of players out in the market however I don’t believe any have a better product for mass distribution than SBW…….as I’ve said all along, it’s only a matter of time.
