The problem at the moment is coal generation is not profitable in daytime hours - only at night and high demand, plus the huge maintenance costs - gas was always the transition fuel and it is too expensive and the Bass Straight is almost empty - so back to coal but it is now privatised so get the coal mines to subsidise the power stations - but shareholders want them closed so government are going to buy them back - keep them going for probably another 10 years at a cost that they will be loathe to pass onto consumers - Minns must make a call soon and don’t forget SA is building a massive cable to tap into the Hunter Valley - it is laughable if it wasn’t so real.
