I performed an off market transfer from myself to my wife. I am told by my accountant that this is enough to prove the loss. An off market transfer can be organised through the registry of the stock. I simply devided the total value of the organisation by the amount of shares on issue and came out to a value of $65.00 for the 10,000 shares I had. This amount goes on the form you fill out. The off market transfer also costs $55.00 which is payable to the registry. I guess this is also tax deductable.
The form can be found here under the registries website;
http://www.boardroomlimited.com.au/Forms.html Use the •Non-Market Transactions - Transferring Shares In a Listed or Unlisted Company form
Follow the instructions on the form closely, for axemple the tranferor, you, needs to verify their identity.
I hope this helps.
Good luck.
