I agree with Jack on the quarterly bit, just to add to that:
Generally speaking on how management look at these matters,
The Quarterlies never really say much - if they did then the company would be breaking continuous disclosure rules. Quarterlies are an anachronistic leftover from the old days when CD wasn't the rule and lots of insiders made lots of money on the quarterly.
They are more of a summary and newsletter and no one should be surprised by one.
