They say 'Rather than alter the fabrication process in order to try to diminish or possibly eliminate the slight imperfections of fabrication...' and then '...while diminishing dependencies on the vendor’s fabrication tolerances.'.

So they are not trying to fix the imperfections in the fabrication process by changing some parameter. Any parameter change would be change to the fabrication process and could have downstream effects as they keep telling us. And there wouldn't be any IP implications in tweaking a unit say from 1.0 to 1.01.

I think they are doing something to the wafers post fabrication to tweak them.
