Unfortunately many posting on this page have no understanding of how the real world works rolling out new power systems and developing, engineering and building $100 million plus projects.
There is no doubt KPO management have been over optimistic with their timelines. But that is not unusual with growing
companies in a sector experiencing unprecedented change.
I think Beaches is correct in saying that they should just roll out a simple gas turbine as soon as permitting is allowed. If necessary lock in a higher carried interest on this first, then proceed with the Kalina module.
To say forget about the Kalina cycle is like throwing out the baby with the bath water.
New power cycles come along every 50 years and there has only ever been the Rankin cycle and the organic Rankin cycle.
The Kalina system works and has been proven but it is not simple and needs specialised engineering and design carried out by tier one companies.
The Japanese firm Chioda was responsible for the design and installation of the Sumitomo plant and it worked perfectly.
But it is important to understand that each system carries its own complexities and it is very important to get the design of using waste heat off
a gas turbine correct. The Kalina system requires a specialised vapor turbine and other specialised engineering features.
I would rather it take a year longer if necessary and avoid the pitfalls of the past.We are fortunate to have a very experienced power team who
understand the issues and challenges and are not signing the first deal on the table to appease a bunch of day traders.
I think they are very close. We have been adding to our KPO position.
Our view is that the inevitable result of coal fired plant closures will be the need for gas fired peakers or many more nuclear power plants.
The idea of windmills, solar and batteries bridging the loss of base load is a joke and will lead to recession or even economic depression.
