After a biopsy is taken the tissue sample has to undergo many steps before the HistoPathologist gets to view the cellular layer under a microscope. Just looking at a thin layer of cells without the correct "staining" techniques tells the HP nothing. This complex series of fixation and staining techniques take up to 24hrs in most cases.
There is a technique where the sample is;
1. frozen using liquid nitrogen.
2. Sliced very thinly "on site" in a room close to the OT or Dr surgery
3. Stained and dried.
4. Viewed immediately by a Histopathologist with the surgeon 'breathing down his neck'

This labor intensive method is referred to as a "frozen section" and takes 30min. or a bit less. Whilst it is fast if you had to pay on the spot it would cost in xs of $1000 (much more in the US). Medicare or health insurers will not pay for it.

The photo method you refer to is simply a screening test and not a definitive diagnosis. AI has a long, long way to go to replace Histopathologists.
After doctors graduate it takes a minimum of 4-5 years to become one of the Pathology Specialists. That plus the constant retraining and external testing of their competence makes them 'thin on the ground' and of course highly paid.
