Speaking of brand loyalty, Nissan was one of the pioneers of the EV industry. Before Tesla took over the mantle, the Nissan Leaf was the best-selling electric vehicle in the world up until 2016. Considering their dedication to creating a better world for both people and the environment, no one would begrudge them the chance to be able to reclaim that initial brand success. So, Nissan joining forces with arch-rival Honda will be huge. However, I also think that Nissan with its experience in EVs is far more advanced than they are letting on.
Interestingly, Nissan's supplier for lithium ion batteries, Automotive Energy Supply Corporation (AESC) has three large-scale battery plants operating and under construction in the US. So, I wonder whether they were recently caught up by DC on his recent extended trip to North America. Time will tell.
What we do know is that RNU maintains a non-binding agreement with Honda's procurement arm, Hanwa. Today's Sunday article reports that the partnership includes joint development for the procurement of batteries therefore, this may include RNU's material.
