    re Bain Capital : If I read it all correctly, some time ago IMD had a rights issue to raise funds for the cyclical upturn that is now starting, but the shorters leapt in, pushed the share price below the rights issue price and held it there. It looked like they were trying to destroy the company (that's one reason why shorting should not be allowed on the main market), but IMD did a deal with Bain, cancelled the rights issue, and survived. Yes, the deal with Bain was expensive, but the company survived. IMD is now in a stronger position and can replace the Bain deal with something better - which it has now done. IMD is now a pretty attractive investment, I reckon, though you wouldn't know it from the last couple of days.

    BTW, I am utterly opposed to shorting on the main market, but not to shorting per se. It should use a derivative market so that the main market has an undiluted share price.
