The SAS scheme is a complicated one. There is two categories. A and B. The only way A can be completed by any doctor is if the patient's condition would be considered life threatening and immediate access to the medication is required. Thus can be ordered by pharmacy immediately.
Otherwise a B form is completed, sent to TGA for approval which may take 2-5 weeks. Once approved the pharmacy can ONLY then order it in for the patient. This approval can be for 1 month supply up to 12 months supply. Often its only for shorter duration initially. So significant time delay.
