Textron Fastening Systems Intevia® Strategy Focuses On Partnerships With Global OEMs And Suppliers

TROY, Mich. Oct. 4, 2006 – Textron Fastening Systems has made major advances in penetrating targeted global markets since its acquisition of licensing rights to intelligent fastening technology from Telezygology almost two years ago, said David Feber, vice president of marketing for the company.

“We have adopted the Intevia® brand name for our five families of intelligent fastening mechanisms and conducted extensive missionary work to create awareness, interest, and understanding of the technology among target markets.

“Today, almost 100 customer engagements are in the pipeline, including a pending test flight of the Intevia® latching and lighting system with one of the world’s largest airlines.

“Intevia® intelligent fastening technology is where it should be at this stage in its business development,” Feber said. “We have products and technology that have generated interest among our target audiences, and are training a global team to sell and service a family of sophisticated systems that can apply in virtuallyevery application.

“We also can assure customers that Intevia® technology provides unique economic value over any currently available design, assembly, and servicing solution. This is the message we are bringing to targeted global aerospace and defense, automotive, and industrial sectors.

“Textron Fastening Systems has a clear goal for Intevia® intelligent fastening technology: To establish a new industry standard for the design, assembly, servicing and recycling of products, completely changing the dynamics of manufacturing.

The strategy is not to just sell Intevia® fasteners to key customers but to forge long-term partnerships based on their recognition of Intevia® as the future of fastening, said Jane Heffner, Intevia® business segment leader for Textron Fastening Systems.

    2 – Intevia® Marketing Activity

In the aerospace industry interior designers are creating and testing Intevia® applications that include instant removal of access panels, door and stowage latches, and seat anchoring systems.

“Interiors of commercial planes usually operate on four-year design cycles, and we intend to partner with aerospace customers in establishing Intevia® applications throughout the cabin and the xxxxpit,” Heffner said.

She also noted that Intevia® is moving closer to being applied in air and ground defense systems.

“Military aircraft makers have expressed significant interest in a range of Intevia applications, initially in access bay doors for electronics, avionics and engines,” she said. “OEMs and suppliers to land-based military vehicles are evaluating Intevia® to permit rapid installation and removal of components in the field. For example, Intevia® could replace standard mechanical attachment and fastening of electronics packages that today are anchored in place.”

The helicopter industry, she said, is interested in applying Intevia for quick switch-over of interior systems from cabin to freight, allowing owners to reconfigure their aircrafts for multiple uses.

Intevia® is a “disruptive” technology,” Heffner noted. In most cases it must be designed into the next generation of products, thus lengthening development cycles before market rollouts. In home and building security applications, however, it can be retrofitted into existing systems, providing opportunities for mass marketing of Intevia® products to these markets.
