Private hospital operators have rejected an offer by health insurers of one-off financial help as a nonsense proposal and say they will push the federal government to make good on a plan forcing funds to increase the percentage of their premiums paid to hospitals.A meeting of industry chief executives and the government on Friday failed to resolve a bitter dispute between hospitals and the health insurers that fund them. Health Minister Mark Butler last week recommended that funds increase the percentage of their premiums paid to hospitals.This followed his approval a week earlier of average health insurance premium hikes of 3.7 per cent for 15 million Australians.
