If I was in the same position as the REIT managers, I would enact the same policy of suspending dividends and instead use the money to pay down debt, ensuring that debt covenants are not breached while simultaneously reducing the possibility of the requirement to raise capital.
It seems like very prudent financial management from my perspective, just because they are not paying dividends doesn't mean that this money is not being used for a good purpose
