I doubt BHP would want to reacquire. The reasons for the divestment have not changed. BHP seems to want geographic and commodity diversity, but we're a bit too diverse! It's the likes of Glencore which would start looking at us if our shares became crazy cheap.

The point about Goldman's analysts last month smoking something is a good one. Perhaps the coffee and cakes provided at the site were delicious and put these guys in a positive mood. It shows exactly why these analysts' opinions can't be taken too seriously, too often. In theory they shouldn't have access to any company information that the market doesn't know.

I like the cracked egg analogy. My thoughts as well.
