Where did you base your observation that "1.2 billion chinese people " would want gold?
I am a chinese, I live in Australia, I have chinese engineer friends who are living in Australia, Singapore & CHINA - most of us only own a few miserable ounces of gold, if ever!
This thing about GOLD being the ever be all for Indians & Chinese is not that solid an argument anymore.
Have you been to Singapore, China or India and see how people are trading in gold?
Do these people, like the Black American funk rock, punk rock and rap stars with their gold teeth, Mr-T with his gold ring wear gold ring, gold chain, gold a, gold b, gold c?
We are all after some $$$$ and it is easy to want to believe that China & India WANTS our gold.
I certainly believe there is a grain of truth in this statement, but not as much as eveyrone, everywhere makes of it!
