1. You're comparing gold a mineral that sells for $1,200 for 31g to a mineral that sells for $24/lb (450g). Obviously that is a flawed comparison for someone exploiting a small thickness. Basically on a weight basis gold sells for 714 times more. Hardly a useful comparison.
2. As for more information, they probably don't even know what is there yet. There was historically 8% grading Cobalt there. How do you know it still is? Obviously (and even more so as it was mined by hand) high grade material is what would have been removed from the mine first. There might not even be any left. The stuff near surface (read easy to mine) has been graded at 0.1-0.3% Co.
