Testing by Chinese scientists in Saudi Arabia confirms that seawater from the Red Sea, after applying Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) technology, can produce very high grade lithium carbonate at significantly lower CAPEX and OPEX than conventional technology.

It might even work with brine from abandoned Canadian oil wells. AZL is going to haul 2,500 gallons of the stuff 1,500 miles and try to produce a ton or so of lithium. This will cost less than $12 million, because that’s all the money they have in the bank.
