Gaps happen on news. Watch the morning auction in market depth prior to open for stocks with market sensitive news - newbies piling in on the news, climbing over each other to outbid and secure stock in the opening auction. FOMO is not a good strategy, you'll learn over time. No matter what the market depth looks like before open, existing sellers will pile on after the open and drive the price down, unless the news is truly earth shattering. If you really like the news, better to wait for a 50% retracement over the next few days as interest fades. Or wait till 11am at least. The sell orders normally arrive about 10:30 when upside momentum fades, unless the opening auction upside spike is large, in which case the selling might start straight away.
