If the volume of a prism is face area x height, I get volume of 35,000 m^2 (3.5 ha) * 300 = 10.5 million m^3 or 105,000 hundred cubic metres. That's about 262k ct given 2.5ct/hcm, pretty close to Mr Axel's numbers. No idea what it costs to get 250 thousand carats out of a kimberlite pipe, but if each carat is worth a low estimate of $500 USD I'm guessing it's probably worth the effort to extract $100M+ worth of diamonds.
