Cooper Metals Ltd (ASX:CPM) is celebrating a bonanza-grade rock chip sample from Attina prospect of the Mt Isa East Copper-Gold Project in northwest Queensland, grading 52.8 g/t gold and 12.35% copper.

Sample MER386 represents the best result of more than 500 rock chip samples collected over the last three years at Mt Isa East, offering a highly encouraging insight into the potential prospectivity of the target area.

The company has also made progress at the Solo prospect, where soil sampling with a portable x-ray fluorescence (pXRF) scanner has revealed two copper anomalies of about 300 metres long, with peak grades of about 500 parts per million copper.

A single rock chip sample from Solo registered 0.42% copper, with visible sulphides present. Further sampling will be required to determine the source of the copper anomalism.

    Preparing for future drill testing

“These two new prospects are showing highly encouraging copper-gold anomalism in soils and rock chips located in favourable structural positions,” Cooper Metals managing director Ian Warland said.

“The areas were followed up as part of an external prospectivity review of the Ardmore tenement in 2023, which helped identify 11 targets from a desktop review of detailed aeromagnetic data, geological mapping and satellite imagery.

“Attina looks especially interesting, due to the high gold grades and the interpretation of a complex trap site formed potentially in a zone of low pressure, which resulted in increased shearing around the contact between a rigid granite body within the Corella Formation.

“We are continuing to improve the geochemical coverage and mapping to assess these areas for future drill testing and look forward to updating the market with our progress.”

Attina prospect sits about 5.5 kilometres northeast of Carnaby’s Mt Hope Deposit, which holds a mineral resource estimate of 10.2 million tonnes at 1.7% copper equivalent for 173,000 tonnes of contained copper.

The prospect’s geology has been interpreted as a sub-crop of a discontinuous line of gossanous quartz veins, varying from 1 metre to 15 metres wide, with a strike of about 700 metres so far.

Soil sampling at Attina produced a peak sample of 0.4%, in the centre of the grid next to the MER163 rock chip which produced a result of 7.47% copper and 0.31 g/t gold.

The anomalous area of note at Attina has quartz veining and gossanous mineralisation at the core of the soil anomaly, which stretches for about 300 metres with soil copper levels of more than 500 parts per million.

Cooper has interpreted the geology of the area to be a favourable 'trap site' for mineralisation, hosted in Corella metasediments, deforming around the Overlander Granite, with mafic intrusions in the localised arcuate major structure.
