It's most likely that rig was only capable of drilling to +/- 250m. A lot of these dinky little RC rigs are designed to drill not much more than that, mainly due to airpacks used to lift chips back to surface. You'd go with second airpack and/or a booster to reach depths up to ~400-500m. They collared RC 279/280 because they were never going to hit mineralization depths with current equipment on site.
