I am a total novice at this side, I was thinking the same thing, does it come down to how many shares that are held by institution that are required to sell, vs shorters that have borrowed from said institutions, vs shorts that do not have to sell?

but also if a fund is required to sell their holdings upon STX leaving the ASX200, do they have a clause with shares they have lent to shorters that re
quire them to return shares on request.

I thought we may see higher volumes of trading as mentioned.
And can the institutions shaft their shorters or is there a buddy relationship there?

Sorry if I sound confused, I am, but willing to learn.
