I’m only speculating, but it looks like Darren Holland had the rug pulled out from under him when Brett Blundy agreed to sell his large stake in AVN to HDN. At first, I found it odd that Darren was joining HMC as CEO of HDN (it was effectively a demotion, as Darren was CEO of Aventus Group), but I suspect that was only window dressing to facilitate the execution of the deal. Darren Holland is arguably too accomplished (and ambitious) to be required to report to David Di Pilla, hence the resignation. It will be interesting to see what Darren Holland does next.
