First and foremost I concur that JP and Team was forced into this nanofiltration option and it's their incompetence that has brought shareholders here where they are.
But I think this deal was not chosen in a haste but with sound technical advise.
All of you can ask AI on which water treatment plants uses nanofiltration. the answer will surprise you. Even Isreal's desalination plant uses nanofiltration to bring down costs and membrane replacement. Since the 1980s nanofiltration has been used for water treatment.
Nano filtration cost will also highly depend on the impurities in the liquid it is filtering.
Standard water Nano filtration can only partially remove lithium ions. A custom made nanofilter with certain pore size will work to allow more Lithium ion to pass while removing Mg, Ca and etc. It is not ROCKET science.
back to accusation on DLE. Nano filtration is just a different process to liming and it is Proven Process. I guess the only caveat here is the maintenance/replacement cost of the filters, but HMW being low impurities would likely require much less than other brines. They are not using DLE tech here but nanofiltration, the product is LiCl + Conventional Ponds as per initial study.
My view is that they will filter to 6% LiCl then it will be back to the ponds 1.8 & 1.9 to thicken to 12.1% LiCl before delivery.
I myself almost hit the sell button when they announce this new deal but after some research I think I'd stay a little longer.
