I spoke to my GP about this in a recent visit. She said directly, they are to discuss antimicrobial resistance and make the patient aware, but doesnt stop them prescribing things. Further, she said they diagnose on symptoms and worst case, do an IN ROOM PCR test like a RAT test anyway. So replace the PCR with a 90+% determinate on viral or bacterial and move on.

Not once in my life has the GP said, ohhh, better get that bacterial infection sent to the lab for testing to determine if you are dying. They have just said, sounds like a bacterial infection, take the antibiotics...

Id rather have the 90% accurate test.
