On lack of ‘price sensitive’ status ….
Given that Origin is getting headlines for intentions to roll out 460 MW batteries (lithium-based)into full service across every state the 78kw Invinity trial vanadium battery might not have been considered price sensitive news based on its’ size ?
July 25, The Australian: https://www.theaustralian.com.au/bu...n/news-story/a5ef2c90944404eecc9f4b1bedf09823
“…Origin has already committed to spending $600m to develop a 460MW battery at Eraring, the site of Australia’s largest coal-fired power generator which supplies about a quarter of NSW’s energy needs and is due to close as soon as 2025.
But Mr Calabria said Origin now planned to replicate that battery across the rest of the NEM.
“We are building a 460MW, two-hour battery at Eraring and we will probably replicate that in every state and we will probably do that as fast as we can execute,” Mr Calabria told Free Electrons 2023, a global energy start-up program held in Sydney this year...”
NB Origin’s also intending to trial a pilot 60MW mystery-electrolyte redox flow battery from Allegro at Eraring, and bought a 5% stake of that company earlier this month as well; https://reneweconomy.com.au/origin-to-trial-12-hour-redox-flow-battery-at-site-of-australias-biggest-coal-generator/#:~:text=Origin says that because Allegro's,materials, and is completely recyclable.

Origin Energy acquires 5% stake in battery cleantech Allegro

Origin Energy has acquired a 5% stake in ReNu Energy's battery cleantech investee company Allegro Energy for $4 million.
The funding will support the cleantech's first Gigafactory as well as a staged development of a 60MWh pilot Redox Flow Battery (RFB) at the Eraring Power Station.
ReNu Energy invests in renewable and clean energy technologies and identifying and developing hydrogen projects to drive shareholder value.
Allegro Energy has developed patented water-based electrolyte RFBs and supercapacitors that makes many battery types more affordable, safer, and environmentally friendly.
The technology is non-flammable, non-corrosive, and fully recyclable with no reliance on scarce materials.
ReNu Energy now holds approximately 4.86% of Allegro's issued share capital which it acquired in December 2021 for $450,000.
"This is a powerful endorsement of our proprietary battery technology and an exciting moment for our team. Origin's support will help us develop large-scale manufacturing of our RFBs which will deliver a cleaner, cheaper, and safer global storage solution to the worldwide energy market," Allegro co-founder and chief executive Thomas Nann commented.
"Origin's stake in Allegro provides strong evidence of the need by energy retailers and others in the sector to answer long duration energy storage challenge, which McKinsey has estimated represents a total addressable market of US$3.5 trillion."
Origin head of energy supply and operations Greg Jarvis said: "We are pleased to be making an investment in what we view as a very promising technology. We believe long duration storage will ultimately play an important role in the energy mix, and we look forward to watching the progress of this trial and seeing how this technology could complement other storage projects within Origin's portfolio."
"Long duration storage could supplement the high demand peak period covered by the 460MW Eraring battery currently under development and add to the overnight generation availability provided by the Shoalhaven Hydro Scheme.
"Our investment in Allegro is a great example of our teams seeking out solutions to some of the challenges presented by Australia's energy transition. It is also particularly pleasing for Origin to work with an innovative, local firm as we look to further transform the Eraring site for the future."
Hopefully the trial Invinity vanadium battery will see early results.
cheers
