Once you get west of the Great Dividing Range ie the Atherton Tablelands the climate changes dramatically from lush rainforests to grasslands.
Yes there is a lot of rain during the wet season but frequently between Apr-Oct there is very little rain in that region, as I posted above it's not about the water allocations or water you can pump from a bore but rainfall to grow grass.
RFF stated in their last conference call that Emerald was too dry for them to consider buying land, which is effectively on top of the GDR, but Rockhampton 270km to the East is not.
So personally I don't think anything that far inland is on RFF's radar.
