"Why go straight to total depth circa 3400m with the obvious risk that by the time that's done the upper portions of the hole will have deteriorated"
- hole deterioration due to length of time hole is left open and possibly also due to higher than optimum mud weight is mitigated by drilling sidetrack with lower mud weight and a much shortened logging job.
- Every time you do an extra logging job there are fixed costs (eg rig up charges) that get incurred. There is also a potential issue with running tools like the MDT and then having insufficient turn around time for on site servicing of the tools before theyre needed for another logging job.
- washed out coals caused us major grief on M2 main bore with MDT tool on TLC. I think they represent the major risk in the sidetrack for success of logging operations. Twigged mud properties may help with the washing out of coals. Vertical hole and running tools on wireline will help if tools need to be worked past ledges.
