Injectivity can be improved by removing (dissolving) the salt blockage than can form which is caused by CO2 injection. Essentially, it is a process of evaporation of the connate water which leaves a salt deposit in the near wellbore region inside the aquifer sands. To improve CO2 injectivity an aqueous solution can be used provided it is compatible with the formation.

A choking effect can occur in any injection well for various reasons e.g., fines migration when small particles including clays dislodge in the pore space to block the pores.
