Are you saying the differential sticking doesn't occur in hydrocarbon bearing zones??
All that is required for differential sticking is an over balanced well and permeable formation...the type of fluid in the permeable zone where the diff sticking is occurring is irrelevant.
I've worked plenty of wells where wireline cables got differentially stuck in permeable hydrocarbon bearing sands.
